² Now Balak son of Zippor^(A) saw all that Israel had done to the Amorites,

⁴ The Moabites^(A) said to the elders of Midian,^(B) “This horde is going to lick up everything^(C) around us, as an ox licks up the grass of the field.^(D)”

So Balak son of Zippor, who was king of Moab at that time,

¹⁰ Balaam said to God, “Balak son of Zippor, king of Moab, sent me this message:

⁹ When Balak son of Zippor,^(A) the king of Moab, prepared to fight against Israel, he sent for Balaam son of Beor^(B) to put a curse on you.^(C)
